Caring for Merino Wool

Caring for Merino Wool

Your Ridge Merino gear is natural odor resistant and needs less washing, saving you time and money on water and energy bills.  When the time comes, follow the instructions on the garment's care label and be sure to check out our tips for caring for wool below.

*Please note the Morrison Flannel and our sweaters is an exception and they are recommended to dry clean only.

       Machine Wash Warm (40° C)

    • Turn garment inside-out
    • Wash with like colors together (separate lights and darks) on gentle or Wool setting
    • Use mild or Wool-specific detergent
    • Do not use hot water - warm or cold water is recommended

Lay Flat or Line Dry in shade

We recommend line drying to enhance the longevity of the Ridge clothing you love and to reduce your environmental impact. Ultra-fine Merino garments can be damaged by zippers or heavy trims on other items in the dryer and heat from the dry can damage or shrink the wool.  If you tumble dry, be sure to use the lowest temperature setting and dry your Ridge Merino separately or with like garments to avoid any unwanted wear and tear.  Some shrinkage should be expected if tumble dried.

        Do not use Bleach

    • Never!  Do not use Bleach.

Fabric Softener

    • Do not use Fabric Softener.

Iron on "Wool" setting (or max 150° C)

    • Iron on "Wool" setting (or max 150° C)
    • Do not iron on prints or labels

Dry Clean

   Professional Dry Cleaning

    • Professional Dry Cleaning is totally fine if that's the way you roll.

Additional Care Info:

What detergents are best?
A neutral, mild wool detergent will help to prolong the lifespan. Mild or neutral detergents have a relatively neutral pH level.  It's important to avoid using heavy-duty detergents, “bio” detergents containing enzymes, or any detergents containing bleaches.  For more information, click here.
Stain Removal

Ridge's Removable Labels
Ridge Merino products are designed to be comfortable against your skin, so any tags in the garments are removable – simply tear them out if you don’t want them. If you choose to rip them out, please note the care instructions.
Lightweight Fabric Care
Lighter wool fabrics may take a little longer to shed their creases. Remove wrinkles by ironing with a damp cloth or steam iron on a warm iron/dot 2 setting.

Our fabrics are certified by The Woolmark Company and their Apparel Care Program.  For even more detailed care information, you can reference their care guide here.
